Utilizing yoga props helps me practice ahimsa, the act of non-violence, in my yoga practice. Incorporating these tools allows me to find my edge while meeting myself where I’m at. Below are some of my favorite ways to use yoga props on the mat
BLOCKS are a great way to bring the ground closer to your body, add height, and offer stability in yoga poses. My favorite ways to use blocks are in poses like half split, trikonasa, side angle pose, & warrior III
STRAPS can give you more space or depth to access a pose when you’re in asanas like seated forward fold, cow face, or mermaid pose
BLANKETS offer a layer of safety or can be used to create space or support the body on the mat. Blankets can be used in sooo many ways, but some of my favorites are savasana, fish pose, meditation, and under the knees in low lunge
BOLSTERS are basically yogi pillows that support the body in various floor based asanas. Predominately used in restorative yoga, these props have found a way to my heart. They give off a layer of safety which gives the body permission to surrender and r e l a x. My favorite poses to use with bolsters are Supta baddha konasana, supported child’s pose, and pigeon pose.
